Whilst the city has an interesting history there’s not a lot to be seen there and most people who visit come for the natural world that surrounds the city. That said, if you are visiting between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the city puts on a weekly ‘Holidazzle’ parade which is spectacular and worth taking in if you have the time. It’s a great build up to Christmas and really puts the city and its inhabitants in the holiday mood.
Outside the city you have plenty of the natural environment to explore and sailing, rowing and windsurfing on the many lakes are popular activities. The area around the lakes is well worth some of your time too and if you want a bit more excitement than just walking the hundreds of miles of trails, you can hire bikes locally. In winter the lakes freeze over adding to their attraction with locals and visitors taking to their skates for some winter fun.
