The city expanded rapidly and changed its focus eventually becoming the entertainment capital of the US. You can walk around some of the film studios, visit Beverly Hills nearby and follow the ‘celebrity map’ to find the homes of all your favourite stars.
Out of the city you can visit Long Beach nearby, a large port city with one of the most vibrant mixes of culture in the country. A great day out there is to tour the Queen Mary, now a floating hotel but once the pride of the Cunard Shipping Line.
Back in LA you’ll not be surprised at the amount of cultural attractions but the Page Museum must be the best. It has an extensive collection of prehistoric animal skeletons which have been dug up in the tar pits that border the museum. If you feel like getting down and dirty you can even volunteer to help!
