The castle is the focal point for the city and is surrounded by tiny, pretty streets with small shops and cafes. At night the city really comes alive with one of the top nightclubs in the Mediterranean, Halikarnas, which is an open air club designed as a Roman temple.
Whilst the city has an adequate but pebbly beach, many tourists head for the very much prettier sandy beach at Gumbet, a twenty minute walk away. There are plenty of tourist facilities at Gumbet beach which has regularly been awarded a Blue Flag. Of more interest for children are the two water parks that have opened in recent years. As they are in full sun, plenty of sun lotion will be needed, especially on children. Outside of the hustle and bustle of the city you’ll find the tranquil countryside dotted with pretty windmills typical of this area.
