Strangely, around the shores of the lake you’ll also find plenty of beaches. The water quality is excellent and despite its dark colour that comes from drainage off peat moorland, the city prides itself that the lake water is drinkable throughout the city. You may have issues with the temperature though and few brave the water, preferring the numerous outdoor swimming pools the city offers including some spa pools which are heated.
If you get the chance to, visit all of the 14 islands on which the city is built and see the differences between them. The further west you go, the more bohemian in style they get. Try to spend some time on Kungsholmen, especially around the port where the city hall is found. Further on still are the two tiny islands of Essingen which are mostly residential.
