Collect your pre-booked hire car from Lahore Airport when you arrive and you’ll have the perfect means to get around what is Pakistan’s second biggest city.
Everyone begins close to where the city began, in the Walled City where the monumental UNESCO accredited sight of the Lahore Fort is located. The fort was also the palace home of the Mughals and later became a Sikh stronghold. The fort’s museum has only exhibits relating to the Sikh era but the building itself tells you much.
The fort’s park holds what is affectionately called the ‘Eiffel Tower of Pakistan, the Minar-e-Pakistan which from a distance could easily pass for the Parisian landmark. Wander around the Inner City, deep within the Walled City, where you’ll happen across small palaces that were the homes of the court officials or members of the Mughal’s family. There are also the Imperial baths where much of the governance of the Punjab was decided.
