The town has some amazing sights for the visitor. It’s close to the Greenland Ice Sheet and it’s possible to walk to the edge of it very easily from the town.
There are also many hiking trails around the town and up onto the ice sheet. They are marked with the level of difficulty and some must only be completed with a guide. Other activities in and around the town include the museum which is mainly about the air force base but has some artefacts from older Narsarsuaq.
Going out on a boat to see the whales is a great excursion. Many of the trips allow you to see whales leaping completely out of the water; a spectacular sight. Kayaking was invented in Greenland and in many places in the town you can rent a kayak to explore the fjords and inlets along the coast. Often the water is flat calm and you’ll have no trouble exploring.
