If you want a decent beach you can head up or down the coast a few miles and find several of note. Cairns prides itself on three main aspects, the variety of Australian wildlife around its region, the fresh fruit and vegetables that are grown in the fertile land around it and the opportunities for taking part in the many sports the city has to offer.
You can dive nearby and access to the iconic Great Barrier Reef is easy from the city. Elsewhere, skydiving is a popular activity. Other natural attractions include Copperlode Dam, a man-made reservoir that supplies the water needs for the city. It’s a beautiful place to visit and surrounded by yet more rainforest.
The Atherton Tablelands are another interesting feature with the unusual and myth-shrouded Mount Hypipamee Crater a key attraction. The Tablelands are a plateau on the Great Dividing Range and have been used for centuries as dairy farming land.
